Not much doin really...

Have had a few days of quiet noodling around home. Started my velvet(een) skirt in blue and green to go with my wonderful bodice from the US. www.oddbodkin.com soon as I had sewn the skirt together and gathered around the waist and pinned the waistband on - surprise, surprise (please read sarcasm), the waistband is too small by ohhh 2 inches! So, ripped it all apart, cut out 2 additional panels and extend the waistband. The additional panels are for fullness in the skirt.

I did have success with the under-skirt in blue broadcloth - simple sewing with a ribbon tied waist.

I finally went back to work this week, however, I went back a day early, so it was a humourous escapade into goofiness - no embarrassment required, just a good laugh. worked wednesday, thursday and have a shift on Sunday. I have worked out the days I will be available during Uni which will be grand to have money whilst learning stuff.

We are having visitors tomorrow! SOme of the gang from Radburne www.sca.org.au/radburne are coming over for a planning/social lunch - I am making caesar salad with gluten free croutons and gluten free 2 tone chocolate brownies...yummo.

Oh..I will also have new hair by the end of this afternoon - as I said to Mr Grump - I can accept the grey hair but I can't live with it yet..

Happy Birthday Mum!

Yep, its mum's birthday today. We are travelling down for dinner tonight. Traditional roast with the trimmings and probably a superb birthday cake for afters.

I was up at the crack of dawn today as part of this ' I have so much energy its cheesing me off' thing my body and head is doing at the moment. So far I have almost completed a under-caftan for my new persian outfit and done 2 lots of washing ...sheesh.
Its going to be hot again - 41C yesterday, a little less today about 38C.
I also received my bodice from the states! So, I am going to go and look at it and go oooohhh pretttyy.

Energy Rising

Its been a little over a week since my op and I am finding I have increasing energy, I just wish it was a little cooler so that I could get out and do some gardening or go for a walk. My throat pain is becoming a distant memory with little discomfort. I still have to keep up the fluids so that it does'nt get too sore or dry. I am getting excited about the possiblities that the op has given me with being able to function reasonably normally without being constantly tired and muddleheaded. No excuses for memory loss now!

There has been emails back and forth to Kol about Festival and camping. It looks like we will have friends from West Oz joining us in our site - HUZZAH! I am getting really excited about it and it is still 2 months (oh shit) away. Must get moving on garb sewing (finish shawl collar caftan and pants, make persian undergarments, velvet skirt to match bodice, and refurbish cloak).
I've said I can work next week and by the looks of it I will need the money as we are hiring a marquee for our site at Festival - a great idea. We will probably purchase food for snacks and go with Crispins kitchen for meals - which is great deal for the 4-5 days I will be there.
Uni to start in 24 days. 2 days a week - full on days, the rest of the week for study, work and chillin'.

Pain, Recovery and Realisation of Self

It'll be a week tomorrow since I had my op and the recovery is progressing with some words being spoken today with a little pain. The frustration level has hit all time highs with the cravings for non-mushy, cool foods (catch-cry has been
I NEED STEAK!)increasing everytime Mr Grump eats something nice for dinner or lunch. I have had to spend a lot of time in the past week not speaking and therefore listening to the inner voice - which has'nt been too bad as the pain in my jaw, my tongue and throat have been consuming the majority of my concentration.

Liquid Paracetamol is effective for a relatively short period of time (4 hours initially) with overly sugary vanilla/strawberry flavour which induce children to imbibe but me (a sweettooth) to go, hmmm just work quickly please...
Everyone has been absolutely lovely sending me well wishes and even recipes for mushy savoury food (soup). Mr Grump has been an angel worrying, fussing without fussing, and being patient while I cry from frustration or write incredibly long messages about short subjects and buying mushy cool food which is quite good for me but quite naughty at the same time (King Island Vanilla Bean Yoghurt to begin with!)
I had a lovely message from Francesca in Fiji - Jealousy was roiling around me as I looked at the absolutely beautiful Pacific scenery - (one day it'll be us), what a wonderful opportunity for her to experience medicine in 'island time'. I hope she has lots of stories with pointing at bodily parts included.

oh well.

Post Coronation and Dead Egyptians

I am glad to say that I survived travelling to Sydney for Coronation and had a super time despite the usual sleep deprivation caused by noise and too much ambient light and direct light from the motel's security lighting. CURSES!!

Coronation was wonderful in the great Australian tradition of parks, trees and food. Everyone was delightful and it was finally great to say hi to people that may wear funny pointy hats once or twice a year. It was wonderful to see the ceremony that entails Coronation with myself, Kol and Harald swearing fealty as part of the populace to the new K & Q. I love the red cloaks that House Drakkar got given and therefore have featured them in my blog photo. The get-together at the pub later on was good and the beer was welcomed even more. Spent far too much money which is not good for the relationship between Mr Grump and I - oh well, add it to the list.
After coming home from Coronation, I had 2 days to recover and wash and maintain garb before we left for Canberra and the Egyptian exhibition from the Lourve. The trip was non-eventful even after thinking I had left my wallet at home and could'nt do any of the driving - but after a break at Canowindra I found it in the glove box. PHEWWW. We arrived in Canberra safely and after a very tense hissy fit in which map books were thrown we found our accomodation and checked in and checked out the exhibition. Which only took an hour to look at and 5 minutes to dismiss the TACKY souvenirs - what a load guff. Had a coffee at the gallery - atrocious.
By this time we both needed a nap, so back to the hotel for a nana nap - refreshed we tackled Manuka and its restaurant strip. After a walk around found the first restaurant we passed and got a table. - fantastic food, great wait staff. Beluchi's is the name.
After dinner, drove to Fyshwick - enough said. Drove to hotel, sleepppppp.
Trip home, less eventful. Good to have my own bed again.
Worked today, was a shit fight with the oven breaking down again and some little shithead person working not being very helpful..slightly arrogant.

call me cynical...

call me cynical but is New Year's Eve another commercial venture these days? Last night I was happy to go to bed before midnight safe in the knowledge that I had made another 74$ working at the Deli.
Mr Grump and I had a lovely dinner and dessert, re-adjusted the wishlist and to do list for 2007 (SCA schtuff not included as that is solely mine to do) and played Euchre and Rummy. Whilst at work strangely enough I was placed in the position of confidant to a girl that works there - all politics yet again which I try to avoid especially being the Newbie on the Block(tm). But, this is a scenario that pops up wherever I go - it must be the trust me look in my eyes..deceptive at the best of times..
To think that this time next week I will be in Sydney with Kol and Harald playing dress-ups and having wonderful food...I think its going to be a full-on weekend with not a lot of sleep to be had.
oh well.. Finished the blue florentine and now working on a caftan that I drafted the pattern for and everything...
Anyway, HAPPY NEW YEAR and I wish whoever and whatever a safe, non-secular, non-gender specific glorious successful ( in whatever fashion) 2007.

Several Things - Importance Negliable - to some

Its been a good week. Last Saturday was extraordinary food-wise but the Friday nite was crap, with Mr Grump questioning my love for him - again.. The next day (anniversary day - 12 years) I delivered an ultimatum - which I am loathe to do at the best of times. It was necessary I thought because I felt my loyalty to him was being questioned at a time where it did'nt need to be and should never be questioned.

Anyhoo, Selkirk's at Orange - fabbo, fanbloodytastic food.. oh my lord..one of the best meals I have had for a long time. 5*****'s.

Thanks Wenchilada!

http://www.popculturemadness.com/Music/Pop-Modern/1991.html

memories of when I was 18 ye gods.

Thanks to Wenchilada! http://wenchilada.livejournal.com/

Happenings

Nearly christmas ye gods. Where has the year gorn?? Finally owned up to the fact that I want to hit people hard with sticks and am exploring the whys and wherefores of my decision. I have concluded thus far these factors.

A: I think too much

B: A bit of biff is a good way to express pent up energy

C: Col and I would make a great girly fighting force

D: It sounds good when I talk to people about SCA stuff and in general

E: Bruises fade

F: I don't want to be boring or beige - god forbid!

So, onto the next stage of the proceedings which is to start learning to fight in earnest which will happen in the new year, and find bits of metal to protect me from mostly hurting when biffing with others. I have decided I want a metal breastplate with a back protection. To that point D1 has found some metal type making guys in the Gumboot that may be interested in doing something for me. Just have to give them the Combat rules and show them some examples which Col is going to supply being a fighty girly and armoured up.

Mr Grump is saying nothing at the moment about this decision, I think he thinks I'm blagging and won't go through with it.. HAH!!!

Still blinging up the dress - its not that far until coronation so I need to get it done soonish especially now that I have a JOB.

NEW JOB details:

Where: Bi-lo Supermarket as a Deli grrrl - you want to slice your what?? I need to fund my SCA habit somehow..so for the foreseeable future its Deli and money, Uni and the SCA - why can't they pay us to be student teachers???

Casual Bowls and dressmaking

It's another warm humid evening where Mr Grump, D1 and I went to twilight bowlsing. It was a great night, barefoot, cold drinks, sausage sanger and a champion round of bowls - Mr Grump and I won despite newbie status. What I love about this town is the genuine concept of helping out and giving advice to anyone that will listen and having a good yarn over a cold one.

The last 2 days/nights I have been down at Dapplewood with Mum, Super-K and D2 - Mum and I have been working together to construct the florentine gown.

Some aspects of the construction I was'nt confident about so I went to the wise sewing elf - mum. Luckily, I did as it needed some converting to fit etc. Now all I have to do is bling it up, do some sleeves and eyelets and oversew eyelets.

YAY! Miss Wu is coming back tomorrow for stuvac - fun to be had with everyone. It looks like myself, Super-K, Miss Wu and ma are going to Coronation/12th night in January - HUZZAH!

Forgive all and move on.

I had an interesting day yesterday. Mr Grump, D1 and I went to Dubbo and whilst Mr Grump went shoe shopping and hardware drooling over, D1 and I had a look at a Psychic fair going on in the one of the most hectic shopping malls in the world, not the biggest just the most hectic.
I had decided before going that I would have a reading and I did, very interesting there is a common theme throughout the readings I have had, dear reader. That is forgiveness.
Of whom?? myself, my parents and other transgressor that have emotionally agrieved me over the years, it sounds a bit dramatic I know. Once I had thought about it, it kinda made sense to me.
The tendency of mine of not letting go of anything and holding onto the rose tinted version of events. I do not consider myself a truly deep person nor am I superficial but having to forgive people close to me is hard. I will not write of it here as it is not a public forgiveness parade!
Onto other stuff.
I have finished my corset and wore it for the first time and unfortunately, I had put the boning in the wrong way and I looked like a big green tube with jellies wobbling on top..I have rectified the situation and will sew it up soon. Off to Mum and Dad's next week for a couple days to start sewing my italian. YAY.
On a sad note, the family said Goodbye to Rosie - a fiesty black terrier that loved everyone and loved cuddles. Vale Rosie!

oh my god, tom cruise got married..woo bloody hoo.

feckin skanky scientologist, scary multitoothed midget..

poor girl scared into marry that...

was there a pre-nup??

anyhoo...

had fun with francesca and oz - felt like a newbie twonk trying to make a material pattern for hose - francesca aka Doc Indy - very patience, very lubbly lady to help me prease.

its late and I'm still up - yay! party to the break of yawn

3 months of Spider solitaire

Well, I have finished and have had a few days of quality sleep...ah perchance to dream..
a conclusion I have come to is that my brain was fried and indeed running on adrenaline, and now I hope it does'nt reflect in my results from uni.
I am now in the luxurious position of playing spider solitaire for the next 3 months - slightly silly - yes, addictive - yep, score for switching the brain off - 10/10.
SCA sewing will start soon and I will be covered in threads and bits of material with a maddened look in my eye that will tell the wary Mr Grump - stay away lest you become a tailors dummy!
I realise that it is only 2 weeks to Festival and I have several outfits in my head that I would like to take time to make instead of doing a rush job. These include:
Florentine gown in blue
Green and gold gown (aussie, aussie oi oi)
Fix split sleeve persian caftan.
White persian chemise
Fix cloak..
make pink persian pants (selwars)
make viking outfit - woolen t-tunic and brown pants.

I am off to Francesca's to make stockings to wear under this garb and to experience Dubvega's delightful heat and humidity..

me doing chook impersonation

Last friday nite Super K the wonder sister and I went to a Uni Masquerade ball and had lots of fun, wore some super feathered masks that cost $2 each..I think I shocked ppl at uni by wearing a dress and heels...lovely and girly I thought but alas according to Super K I have a male harem of 20 somethings...whats a woman to do..

On to my last assignment for the Uni year - its all about education department policy interpretation and critical analysis and my own philosophy for the classroom discipline and management. Due on Thursday, have done the hard bits, its just making it 2000 words that will be the hard bit..or maybe not. Have to give a u-hoo to my sis, Ms W-Woo and wish her good luck in her exams for next week. Mum told me to think of her while she trials and tribulates..
Had lunch with Mr Grump in the park today - such a lovely day with green grass parrots and wattle birds amongst the trees, very speckky.

Not long now

gosh, 3 days to go and 2nd year is almost done. I have some assignments due next week but that does'nt matter at least I'm at home.

SCA schtuff- we have a new king and queen to be crowned soon. I'm getting excited at the prospect of making garb for festival...I'm so pretty oh so pretty.

Countdown - not the tv show

Again, I am feeling life in its entirety. Uni has me to'ing and fro'ing emotionally and I wish it would all fuck off and I could hide under a rock..

some costuming/SCA schtuff - I have almost finished my corset in green which has taken me awhile (see above comment) it should be lovely to wear and give me a more 'traditional' line under my european garb..I have a list as long as long thing of projects for the next 3 months as I wait for 3rd year to come about.
I can't wait for 2007 as I have made the decision to wayfare more and meet more SCA'ers and I am waiting with baited breath for Festival - I think we are having our own site this year which will be fun and maybe a little annoying at the same time...oh well, more time at the Tav and at classes.
Hopefully, Mr Grump will join in at some of the wayfaring...or I'll have to find myself a consort for away missions..I need someone to flirt with in the tavern..

Back to uni crap - anyone know anything about how similar/dissimilar vygotsky and montessori were?

Here I am

Where am I?
After another week of monday and friday teaching I have finished my 2nd year prac. It was heart wrenching leaving the children behind but I am glad to leave the school behind - too big, too impersonal, a bit clique-y.
I received lots of love and praise from the kids plus some very inciteful and entertaining 6/7 year old wisdom. Ideally this is where I would love to end up teaching - just old enough to be knowledgable but still at that trusting, loving and just *grand* age.

SCA schtuff - not much going on as Uni has taken over for the next few weeks. The emails have been running hot with everyone saying whatever - sometimes being away from Dubvegas has its advantages...sometimes not. I am loving it still and it keeps me sane but the drive is not there at the moment to complete any of my projects or start any- fucken uni..
The photo on the right was taken at last weeks Tourney - me trying to look elegant and romanesque...while list mistressing..
Mr Grump and i had a lovely day in Dubs buying printers and plants - a perfectly lovely day out. Brought some hanging baskets and seedlings - petunias, verbenas and seadaisies - harkening back to childhood.
Cold tonight - requiring trakkies, fluffy socks and toast for dinner.
